Proposal Engineering and Business Development

The prime responsibility of this process centre is to provide pre-bid conceptual engineering services for fossil-fuel-based power plants and generate business for the organisation.

Pre-bid engineering utilises proven and tested software developed by Sargent & Lundy as well as other commercial packages. These are powerful tools for technology selection which establish overall plant guarantees supported by the guarantees of equipment manufacturers and help evaluate project cost at the conceptual design stage itself. In addition, other specialised packages and modules of PLADES is used for furnishing various deliverables like plot plan, general arrangement drawings and schematics. The use of integrated software ensures continuity at the time of detailed engineering. The process is driven by the quality procedures, programs and extensive updated in-house database.

This process centre draws upon extensive market research to identify potential projects from a wide spectrum of clients like Electricity Boards, Independent Power Producers, EPC contractors and Financial institutions. It provides optimum customer oriented solutions, ensuring long-term customer relationship.



Project Management

The project managers are a single point contact to ensure completion of projects to the customer’s satisfaction. They understand the client’s needs and ensure that the project is completed within the budgeted time and cost. The project team utilises time-proven, advance planning and quality assurance procedures.

Project schedule and PERT networks are developed using computerized project management tools. Project specific procedures are developed to ensure compliance with customer requirements. For quick accessibility of information, all pertinent project drawings, documents and records are maintained in a single project data.



Refurbishment & Modernisation

This process centre provides the expertise and management to coordinate the various activities necessary in Refurbishment & Modernisation (R&M) projects, including Residual Life Assessment studies and Repowering. R&M offers critical advantages over setting up of greenfield projects. At a comparatively much lower investment, one can gain major improvements in generation, reliability and availability. The gestation period is shorter than that of a greenfield plant since minimal infrastructure is to be added and few statutory clearances are required.



Residual Life Assessment Studies

Accuracy and dependability are key attributes in assessment of the residual life of a plant. A system that is both technologically intensive and transparent provides the most true-to-life picture of the residual life of power plants. This process centre analyses past performance and existing conditions to determine the remaining life of equipment/systems utilising the extensive procedures developed jointly by Sargent & Lundy and Electric Power Research Institute, USA.



Power Sector Reforms

We have emerged as one of the top consultants to provide overall consultancy services for power sector reforms. We have suggested various methods for improving the overall efficiency of the systems in the Power Sector. We have also undertaken assignments in all the three primary branches of the Power Sector viz., Generation, Transmission and Distribution. Owner's Engineering

Owners Engineers Services include Technology recommendation, Preparation of Feasibility Reports, Detailed Project Reports, EPC Specification preparation, Front End Engineering Design Documents (FEED), Bid evaluation, Technical assistance to the owner in obtaining statutory clearances, review of EPC contractor’s engineering, Inspection and Expediting services, review of site/construction progress and performance testing during the commissioning support.





Lender's Engineering & Due Diligence

L&T-S&L carries out Lender's Engineering assignments in four phases viz, Due diligence services include activities as independent engineer or engineering support to financial institutions with respect to environmental review of existing plants, condition assessment, performance and inspection testing support, project documents review, project progress review, project O&M review etc.






Feasibility Studies

Power Plant Feasibility studies are undertaken to determine the plant's feasibility from technical, environmental, economic and financial perspectives. Each feasibility study is unique and depends on the requirements of the developer, owner, operator or financial institution. Certain projects may require more emphasis on economic or financial considerations and less on technical aspects and vice versa.

L&T-S&L provides consultancy for preparing the feasibility report in order to establish the viability of the project. Major aspects covered under this task are mentioned under Detail Engineering & Design.





Detail Engineering & Design

L&T-S&L provides engineering services from inception to commissioning of the project as the ‘Architect Engineers’. The activities under such assignment include preparation of Project Reports as well as assistance in obtaining License/Clearances till final commissioning.
